FTSE 100 faces challenges, while Dax and Dow hold steady amid market fluctuations—investors eye stability.
In recent trading sessions, the FTSE 100 index has encountered several setbacks, retracting from its peak at 7700 and the lower high recorded earlier this month. Following a breakthrough above trendline resistance from 2023 highs in late January, market observers anticipate a potential retest of the broken trendline from an upward trajectory. Notably, this coincides with the 200-day simple moving average (ISMA). Analysts suggest that a resurgence above the 7600 mark could indicate a bottom formation, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the ongoing downturn.
FTSE 100 Volatility, Dax Stability, Dow’s Path Ahead – Latest Trends
The FTSE 100 displays a bearish trend, with 65% of clients being net long. Daily changes in positions indicate a 17% increase in longs and no change in shorts, while weekly data reveals a 43% rise in longs juxtaposed with a 28% decrease in shorts.
Meanwhile, the Dax index maintains its position around the 17,000 mark, showing resilience above trendline support traced back to the October low. Recent weakness in mid-January saw a rebound as buyers emerged around the 50-day SMA. Analysts foresee a potential surge to a new record high in the short term. However, a near-term retracement could be on the horizon, contingent upon a breach below the 50-day SMA, which might pave the way for a test of January’s low at 16,345, with potential support anticipated before reaching this level, including the previous record high of 16,532.
For the Dow, recent movements indicate a testing of support levels from the mid-January low, hinting at possible further weakness ahead. A breach of support could lead to another examination of previous highs at 37,825. Further downward movement may see the index descend towards the 50-day SMA, followed by a potential drop to 37,125, corresponding to the December low.
These developments come amidst broader market uncertainty, with investors closely monitoring key indices for signs of stabilization or further volatility.
